Aging with attitude, peace, and joy.
There’s nothing we can do about aging but there is something we can do about how we handle it.
Aging often elicits negative thoughts which can turn into negative attitudes.  This negativism can impact every part of the body and rob us of our joy.  If we find ourselves in this situation, we have to regroup.
Developing and maintaining a positive attitude may be easier for some than others because it has a lot to do with how we take care of ourselves mentally, emotionally, physically, spiritually, and financially.

This site is a vehicle where you and I can share our opinions, experiences, ideas, and knowledge about how we maintain (or not) peace and joy in our lives.
You can read more about my journey over the years and why I’m so passionate about sharing how I have such inner peace and joy while sharing your own.
There’s also an opinion page called Jazzy’s Opinions which I share everything that I have opinions about.  And I have a lot of opinions about a lot of things.

Jazzy Old Broad

My Story

I’m Jenyce better known as JJ, your 83 years “jazzy old broad”.

Armed with a Masters Degree in Psychology and Social Work, my past lives include:

Owner of :

a) JJ’s School of Charm (first Black-owned charm school in Norfolk, Va.

b) J. Johnson & Associates, as a workshop facilitator specializing in stress management, relationships, and team building in the workplace.

A newspaper columnist for a local newspaper, The Journal & Guide, wrote columns called “Woman to Woman” and “Becoming” (focused on personal development for women).

Author of a couple of booklets:

a) Creating a Learning Environment (a team-building focused booklet).

b) Food: It’s Driving Me Crazy! (focus on how certain foods, chemicals, additives, etc. caused physical and mental health problems for me.  Based on my personal experiences and research).

The one thing that ties all of this together is the focus on personal and healthy growth.  And I work hard to continue to learn and grow.

Before entering the world of business, I was:

The first Black to integrate the department stores in Suffolk, Va. in sales, working at what was then known as Sears & Roebuck now known as Sears Department Store and

the first Black in sales at then Sears & Roebuck in Norfolk, Va.

The first Black to work in the Personnel department (as a receptionist) at what was known then as Virginia National Bank and now known as Bank of America in Norfolk, Va.

The first Black to attend the city of Norfolk’s only charm and modeling school.   (The owner said she didn’t know what to do with me :).

The first Black to own and operate a charm school in Norfolk, Va.

I’ll talk more about these experiences in about.

I’m not a fashion icon but I love fashion and like to think I have style.

Style is knowing who you are, what you want to say, and not giving a damn.”  Gore Vidal.  And

“Beauty begins the moment you decide to be yourself”  Coco Chanel.

I’m not a medical expert but I have a lot of knowledge, research, and experience on health issues.

I’m not a money expert but I have a lot of knowledge on what not to do.

The saying that “Money isn’t everything” may be right…when you have it.  Without it, it can become everything.

Then there’s the saying “Money is the root of all evil”.  And I say the lack of it is the cause of a lot of unhappiness, lack of joy, peace, and poor health.

My Hobby:  Cooking

My Religion:  Jazz Music

My Passion:   Money

I LOVE:

Straight Ahead Jazz

Flora de Cara 18-year Estate Rum with Coke.

Fine Dining and from-scratch southern/soul cooking.

Watching TV (I’m an ID addict-those of you who are will know what I’m talking about 🙂

Being alone.  A  woman who knows what she brings to the table is not afraid to eat alone. Unknown… For those who say you should not spend too much time alone, I say being alone does not mean you are lonely.

I kinda think like the jazz musician when asked what would he do if he won the lottery.  He answered, “Build a moat around my house and fill it with alligators.”  🙂

I just happen to like my own company.

Nature.  Sitting quietly and just looking at the trees and or water, doing nothing.  Someone said (I can’t remember who) “It takes a lot of intelligence to do nothing as well as I do”… that’s me.

Chocolate (almost anything with chocolate in or on it).

Just got my nails done in my favorite nail salon.   Vogue Lashes and Spa in Va. Beach.

I’ve been to at least four different nail salons and this is by far the best in cleanliness,  attitude, customer service, personality and Yulia is by far the best nail technician ever.

It’s a family-owned business who are Russians.  The first Russians I’ve met and they are beautiful people.   Well…at least these are.:)

And of course, I’m their oldest client.

A Few Tips That Helps to Enhance My Joy.

Top: crab cake, cole slaw and walnuts over peaches.

Below:  Running the tub for a bath by candle light.

Dancing with Jazz music

Me dancing.  Not that I have aged in the pictures above vs this picture.

Just different wigs 🙂

There will be more in-depth articles on each of these tips.

Eat fresh foods.

I don’t eat fast foods, Buffett, very little processed, etc.  I’ll be talking a lot about food and how it has affected me negatively and positively.

Breathe.

Correctly.  Some people are not aware of the correct way.   Clicking on Breathe above will take you to an article showing how you can breathe properly for better relaxation.

“Breathe. Let go. And remind yourself that this very moment is the only one you know you have for sure.”
— Oprah Winfrey

Live in the moment.

Learn from the past, plan for the future but live in the moment.  I try to quiet my mind and focus on where I am in the moment and try to enjoy it.

“If you want to conquer the anxiety of life, live in the moment, live in the breath.”
— Amit Ray, spiritual teacher

Bubble bath.

I realize not everyone can get in and out of the bathtub but if you can,  soak in the tub with something like Epsom salts.  I use Dr. Teal Epsom salts and bubble baths and soak in them for sometimes a couple of hours by candlelight.

It relieves me of anxiety, stress, and arthritic pain while providing quiet time.

Move.

I personally hate to exercise.  In the winter I don’t want to go out to walk (well, truth be told, in the summer either).  But with my severe arthritic body, I know I need to move.

Sooo I put some jazz DVDs on and dance all over the room pretending I’m young and on stage…LOL (lol means laughing out loud for all you job’s that didn’t know).

And if you should see lmao anywhere on this blog, it means “laughing my ass off”.

Laugh

I laugh a lot these days because I’m happy. But I saw the other day there are laughter yoga classes where you fake laughter until you make it.

Well, I don’t need this kind of class but it’s there if you need it.  Laughter is supposed to be good for your health.

JAZZ on…….

An afterthought.  “job” means jazzy old broad. I thought about using sassy old broad but “job” sounds better than “sob”:)
